How Faeries Influence UsFaeries influence people from many backgrounds in every day life. The reason for this influence has to do with the coming of spring and summer. Faeries often represent the reawakening or plant spirits that have been sleeping during the winter. It is the coming of the time of year when life is not so bleak, cold and harsh. It is the time of the year when people can look forward to relaxing under a warm sun or hot soon with a small amount of clothing, picnicking or swimming outside. Commerce often play upon these feelings to attract customers to their stores. This is the case with the following pictures I took.
|
![]() I took this Faery mannequin picture in Mid March 2009 at the McGill Metro. It was a display put together by a commerce. I remember seeing it the year before, so I believe it is a display they put up every year. You will notice that the Faery mannequin is human size. It seems to me that it is a message for those passing by to identify with Faeries, as the face is a blank white plastic one without colouring allowing that face to be replaced by one's own face. Other than just being an incentive for people to start thinking of buying new clothing for the warm and hot season, it is also about getting people to go out and do whatever activities can be only done in spring and summer weather. The mannequin is not at a stand still; it is either dancing or jumping ceasing the moment. |
![]() In this shot the wings have not been unfortunately cut off as they were in the previous shot by my extremely unpredictable cheap digital camera made in China. It is hard to notice them in these pictures but the Faery mannequin does have black antennas coming out from the top of its head. The rest of the humanoid body has also been made to look as insect like as possble. It is not easy to see in this somewhat blurred picture but, the body is black with some white spots that looks similar to the body core of most butterflies. |
![]() This picture is somewhat like the previous one with a bit more of a close-up on the humanoid body part. In both pictures you can notice somewhat that the blue wings also have black membranes in them, making them appear as butterfly like as possible. |
